April 2001

I decided to look into the safety link specified in the Robot Wars technical sheets, and dropped Karl an email to find out what he had used. He replied with the name of commonly used battery charging connector (Anderson Power), and a URL link to their web site. After a quick bit of surfing, I found the contact details of one of their distributors, and sent off my usual grovelling request. This pleaded poverty and a family to support, and a request for them to donate the items in exchange for me putting their name and logo on the web site's sponsor's page. To my surprise, within a period of one hour I had a response from Jed at Machine Electrics to say "No problem, we'll put a couple in the post to you free of charge." I must be getting the grovelling letters off-pat it seems!

Two SB connectors from Machine Electrics arrived today, which I will use these as the removable safety links. They were rated at 350Amps, but looked like they could handle a lot more current than that. They also sent me a nice handle for the connectors that makes it easy to pull the link out when necessary. All in all, Machine Electrics did me proud.

Another package arrived today from Machine Electrics. This time it was a contactor that they had sent me following my earlier request for the device. It looked like it was a substantial device, and well able to cope with the currents I would be putting through it.
